GB3SEV - 144.432MHZ

At the heart of Worcestershire and the Severn Valley, GB3SEV will be the new 144mhz Beacon serving the VHF Amateur Radio enthusiasts. This is sited with a good take off to the south east at my Fathers QTH G6EHG.

I have been a VHF contester for a while now, unfortunately I have almost had to hang my portable operation up due to family commitments. This project is something that I want to do and bring something back to the community that I’m apart of. Beacons to me are one of the most useful things to have for many reasons, including propagation, setting rotators etc.

I Won’t be doing this alone, I have full support of my Father G6EHG, Hereford Amateur Radio Society and many others locally.

The beacon for the short term has a temporary mast at 4m and a temporary transmitter. The transmitter has been set to 5w for testing. This is driven by a simple Arduino board. Please note though, it has a 1-minute cycle but is not GPS locked yet, so please bear with me. Testing will done through out the day from around 8am till 10pm and manned where possible.

I endeavor to have the proper Beacon complete with in 6-8 depending on delivery of certain items from all parts of the world!

The Items that I am struggling with are as follows-

  • Band Pass Filter
  • Reliable PA

If anyone would like to offer help / support  or offer any advice please get in touch.

Any reports are welcome, good or bad…. It can only get better!
