Ham Member Lookups: 1463

I've been a ham operator since the mid-80's when I moved to Vero Beach, Florida and across the street from a ham operator.  Always had been interested but never took the plunge.  My new neighbor gave me a month to study and a month later I was a ham!

First rig was a Kenwood TS-520S feeding into an inverted-V dipole.  Through the years I got a Kenwood TS-140S and then a Kenwood TS-570D.  Now working with a IC-7000 on loan from a great ham friend while I aquire a new HF rig.

I'm also finally in the digital age (once again) with a Kenwood TH-74D going into a DV dongle for DStar.  Really like the mode though I have to admit that I feel that it is cheating a little.  That said, I've made some great contacts hanging out primarily on REF 030C.  I did some digital work in the 90's operating several digipeaters on 2 meters and 10 meters operating packet.  Had a Kantronics KAM that was really put to good use during that time.

Location now affords some great trees and a lot of land and I currently have a full size G5RV that is oriented SW/NE at about 30' in the middle.  I hope to get it raised by going over some higher trees.  I'd love to get the center feed at about 50' or so.  I also hope to get a tower with a rotable beam some day for some of the higher bands.
