My first Radio is an Icom ID -51A Plus 2. I wanted something I could grow into.  I recently added an OPEN SPOT (Shark RF) that I love to use for my DSTAR contacts. Clear Signal reports all the time now versus using DSTAR from my ICOM where I had distance issues to my local repeater.

I got my license in August of 2017 after more than 30 years of thinking about it. I was actually an active CB'er and got my license for CB when I was 14. My dad was a radio man in the airforce many years ago which fueled my facination. We built Health kit radio's when I was a child which taught me some basic electronics. This HT fits into my lifestyle as Im always on the go. For now a mobile or base station didnt seem to work for me. I hope to make some great local contacts via 2 meter and new friends and then move to D-Star. I want to learn more about NETS and find subjects that interest me.

There is so much to learn but I have a great Elmer to walk me through and challenge me at times. I am studying for my General now when I have time. One day and one contact at a time.....

The photo I have posted is my view from the 4th floor balcony which is where I'm perched while making some great contacts. Its actually an old 9 hole golf course.
