I got my Technician ticket in July 2012 after listening to the Ham Nation podcast for a couple of years. I realized that I always wanted to mess around with amateur radio since I was a kid. Fifty plus years later, listening to Bob Heil and Gordon West jogged my memory enough to want to do something about it. I got my General license Dec 2012 and finally got my Extra ticket July 2013.
Mainly, I am interested in HF and packet/digital modes. I started out with an old Kenwood TS 520S that I picked up on E-Bay. It was quite a learning curve for me, but I love that thing. It pulls in signals like crazy and I am always surprised at the contacts I can make with it. In Dec, I had a chance to pick up a TS 2000X so I went for it. Now I have two radios that I love. The old and new seem to compliment each other really well.
At any rate, I really enjoy tinkering around with the various HF bands and I hope to make contact with you soon.
