Greetings from way down yonder near New Orleans
This is Glen Strecker - KG5CEN a former career firefighter with 18 and a half years on the job with St. Tammany Parish Fire Protection District No. 1 in Slidell, Louisiana. During my public sector career, I attained the ranks of District Fire Chief (Position now Deputy Chief on Crew 3) and Chief of Fire Prevention.
I am a Certified Fire Investigator through the International Association of Arson Investigators. I am presently a private fire investigator/Senior Fire Consultant since March 1996 with Rimkus Consulting Group, Inc., a forensic engineering firm providing consulting services to insurance companies and legal clients. I am a licensed as a private investigator in Louisiana and Florida. Prior to my fire service career, I was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary for several years with specialty training in Boating Safety Inspections, Public Boating Safety Education, Radio Communications, Safety Patrols, Search and Rescue, and Seamanship. Our group performed safety patrols and boating rescues in the eastern portion of Lake Pontchartrain and the Mississippi Sound.
I attained my Amateur Radio License May 19, 2014 and hold a General Class license. Presently, my capabilities include D-star via a DV Dongle and computer running DVTool, WinDV, and D-RATS software while at home and through an Icom ID-5100 mobile radio when on the road. I have access to the Echolink network via the laptop computer and through an iPad mini for mobile operations. My Echolink node number is 995216. Local/regional communications are through a Baofeng GT-3TP Mark II, 8-watt dual band (2 meter/70 cm) handy talkie or the ID-5100. I have an interest in learning more about emergency communications and participate in the Ozone Amateur Radio Club's Friday 2 meter net, the St. Tammany Parish -Pearl River County Ares net, the ArkLaTex Dstar net, the Voip Hurricane Prep Net and the Southeast Dstar Weather Net.
I recently added a used IC-91AD HT and a DV-mega to my collection and have a D-rats internet-based ratflector operating as StTammany.ratflector.com .
I am often on the roads going out on fire scene examinations throughout much of the Gulf Coast region. On the longer runs, I monitor the closest D-star and local repeaters with the ID-5100. Hope to hear you on the air.
