Thank you for your contact and time.  I upload my Contacts to both LOTW and HRDLOG.net after each session. 100 Watts & A Wire - Number 133

My name is Jim Whitehead and I live in Davie, Florida - Davie is a little west of Fort Lauderdale.

I was born and raised in Rhode Island - lived 28 years in Barrington.

I moved to Florida the summer after the Blizzard of 1978!

I am in the Generator Business which fits well into the need for emergency power.

I live in a non-associated neighborhood (no antenna deed restrictions) and

accordingly have the opportunity to work on different types of antennas.

I have also been interested in all electronics and had a shortwave radio when I was a kid.

I started the licensing process in October 2011 obtaining my Technician and General License on

February 4, 2012.

I passed the Extra Exam on October 9, 2012!!

Studying CW Daily - just added to my station a Vibroplex Deluxe Chrome Bug.

Also for CW a Vibroplex Iambic.

My Station:

  • 2 Flex Radios 6500 with a Heil PR-781 Microphones

  • Icom 7100 - All Mode Radio including DStar

  • DVAP - running on a Rasberry Pi for DStar

  • Grundig Satellit 750 Short Wave Receiver

  • Hy-Gain HyTower with 150 Radials

  • Height Self Supporting Telescoping 55 Feet Tower

  • Tennadyne T10 on Tower for 20 - 10 Meters

  • Tennadyne T28 on Tower for 6 Meters & UHF/VHF/Dstar

  • Ameritron ALS 1300 for 1 Flex Radio

  • Ameritron ALS 600 for 1 Flex Radio

  • Palstar 1800HF - Automatic Attenna Tuner my T10 - (20-10)

  • LDG 1000PROII Autotuner for my Hy-Gain HyTower

  • 4o3A Antenna Genius - used for my 2 Flex Radios with 3 attennas

Built a New Shack at the end of 2013 - moved from a 100 square foot bedroom to a newly constructed 300+ square foot space - I had to extend all my attenna coax - significantly upgraded my grounding. Works well!!

UPDATE - Currently (October 2015) working on installing a tower - Strict Planning & Zoning and Structural Requirements made it a bit challenging - Permit applications APPROVED - 12 weeks to receive the tower (Height Towers - Pensacola, Florida) - a 55 foot self supporting tower with a crank down height to 19'.  I will have 21 Square Feet of Windage - so potentially a TennaDyne T10 & T28 - a UHF-VHF attenna - a M2 Sat Antenna and a Discone - Rotor Hygain Tailtwister 2 - I will keep you updated!! Update 11-22-2015 - looking for an excavator that can dig a 10 foot deep whole - a problem in South Florida = high water table and worst - solid rock - I will not give up!!

Update 03-20-2016 - Tower Project Complete - amazing journey!!! Enjoyed the experience and the results.

Tower Dedicated "The Shiny Radio Tower" April 1, 2016.
