Hello everyone. I am based at Wombwell, Barnsley, in South Yorkshire. I enjoy all modes that my licence enables me to do. I am Ex-Royal Corp of Signals I served from 1978 -1987 and have always been interested in communications in one way or another.
I like to home brew and experiment with antenna's and believe that simplicity in design and construction is the best way to go hence my favourite antenna is a Moxon, Loop and a Dipole. very effective antennas for little money with good gain and an exellent front to back ratio in the respect of the Moxon. I find the the dipole makes an excellent NVIS antenna for 40 meters at an height of 4 meters above ground cut for the frequency. (great for inter G work) The loop being of a closed type antenna is very quiet and a good performer having gain over a dipole.
I also enjoy 2 Mtr ssb and my antenna's for this mode are a 15 ele yagi by Cushcraft and a 11 ele crossed Tonna. I work 4 mtrs which is to my mind more of a gentlemans band. With less interference than is the norm on 2 meters due to IQ zero's and bad operating. I use 6 Mtrs when there is activity which tends to be in the summer months. I have monoband Moxon for 20m which is a fantastic antenna with excellent performance.
I Also use Computer aided communications such as PSK31, RTTY, and WSJT6 and WSPR. I am also interested in FDMDV which is digital voice over analog radio. I operate D-star via the computer and a DV dongle mainly on GB7SF Sheffeild.
