I was first licensed in December 1988 with the callsign KB5HXM, upgraded to the current callsign in January 1989, and have been active in the Oklahoma City area beginning with my time at one of Oklahoma City's local TV stations. Severe weather coverage and storm chasing were my primary reasons for getting into amateur radio since I clearly saw this as a service to the general public.

I acquired the General license in May 2010 and became an Amateur Extra in December 2011.

My current rig is a Yaesu FT-840. I have six HF antennas inside my upstairs apartment; dipoles for 12, 15, 17, and 20 meters, and a 40 meter TAK-tenna which will also tune up on 10 meters. I also have a Super Antenna MP1DXTR portable vertical I can set up either inside the apt or just outside in the breezeway which I use for 80 meters. The tuner is a LDG AT-100ProII Autotuner. I do enjoy chasing DX as well as rag chewing.

The above photo was shot on my 62nd birthday October 25, 2016.

My indoor VHF/UHF rig is a Yaesu FT-7900R with home brew groundplane antennas, and my mobile VHF/UHF is a Yaesu FT-8800R with an Antron dual band vertical mounted on top of the car. I also have two hand talkies; a Yaesu VX-6 and a Yaesu FT1XDR.

I'm currently a member of ACARC (Aeronautical Center Amateur Radio Club) and am currently the Vice-President of OCAPA (Oklahoma City AutoPatch Association). Please visit www.hamholiday.org for info regarding our hamfest in July.

I have also been into amateur astronomy since 1967. There's quite a lot of crossover between Amateur radio and amateur astronomy, so check out the Oklahoma City Astronomy Club http://www.okcastroclub.com which hosts the annual Okie-Tex Star Party http://www.okie-tex.com.

Whenever you're passing through Oklahoma City you're welcome to use any one of the number of repeaters, including Fusion, that service the central Oklahoma area.

73's to everyone!
