Ham Member Lookups: 1956

I was first licensed a kid in 1988 (licensed as KB9BIB until Feb-2017). I was very active for a number of years, and became quite active in DXing and contesting as a teenager.

As I neared the final year of high school, I naturally got pulled into another direction, away from ham radio. After moving away from home (to New Jersey), I ended up living in a townhouse which would not allow me to setup a station. So I ended up further away from ham radio. I did manage to keep my license active, so now that I live in a single family home back in Illinois, I was able to get back on the air again. It took a few years of living in the area before I came back, but I'm back on the air. I ended up being inactive from around summer 1993 to fall 2016 (23 years).

My primary focus in ham radio is definitely contesting. I also find great joy in working a new DX entity, or filling a band/mode slot. The DXing fits right in with the contesting, but also helps pass the time in between contests. From time to time, I will sit back and have a relaxing QSO, but that doesn't happen very often.

My current station:
Radio: Icom 7300
Linear: Ameritron AL-80B
Tuner: Ameritron ATR-30
Rotor: Yaesu G-800DXA

JK Navassa-5 @ 50' (6,10,12,15,17,20)
JK401 @ 54' (rotatable 40m dipole)
Alpha Delta DX-B 1/2 Sloper (30,40,80,160)
GAP Challenger DX VIII Vertical (2,6,10,15,20,40,80)
+ 4 pre-strung pulleys (the lines angle down from the top in the pics) to add temporary wire antennas as needed.

Club Affiliations

I upload to ClubLog continually. I update LotW very regularly and soon after all contests. The digital stuff is great for awards, but I still love to get paper QSL cards too. There's just something about opening the mailbox and getting a QSL card. I also upload to eQSL.cc, but that is for the benefit of those that need those confirmation for an award, I do not collect them.

73 and hope to see you on the bands and in the contests.
