Hello and welcome to my QRZ page my name is Guido (Snow) Herodes and been licensed since 1982. Previous held call sign include VK2KOD, VK3IFS, and VK4IFS.

The home QTH is Townsville in sunny North Queensland  and I call it paradise. I spent 40 years in the Australian Defence Force (Army) and I retired in 2013.  While in the Army I was able to set up a radio station at each of the location I was posted to throughout my career.

My radio shack is a shipping container and is a work in progress. Yes it is air-conditioned.

Saturday 09 Sep 2017 installed a roof over the top of the shipping container, temperature inside the container has dropped down.

I enjoy HF and portable operation. For portable operations I picked up a 5 band verticle Werner Wolf antenna at an auction. The gamma type capacitors were passed their use buy date; replaced them with 2 x 40 - 200 pf 2kv variable ones, so much easier to tune now. A mounting bracket is fixed to tha "A" frame of the caravan, easy to errect lay the pole down and insert the antenna and raise the antenna.

The home base antennas comprise of a trapped 40/80/160 meter dipole up at 15 meters a Chirnside tri-band beam for 20/15/10 meters; and a 7 element beam for 2 meter.

Radios includeYaesu FTDX 3000, Icom IC-7100, Yaesu FT-857, RM HLA 300 amp and number of VHF UHF radios for local work. Gave my son the FT897 to use.

I also belong to the Townsville Amateur and Electronics Club; a very active club as far as amateur radio is concerned.
