Hello,

...and thanks for stopping by to my little corner of the internet. I am not on social media per se so this is about as good as it gets for me.  It will be a while before this page is fully up and running due to work and other activities but it is a work in progress.  I relocated to Yukon (or 'M' Div as it is known internally) as a result of my work (RCMP) where I am the commanding officer or 'CO'.

I have included some photo's of just a few of the  great people I get to work with...some are seen here in Dawson City,  on the Riverboat 'Keno'. Myself 2nd in on front left. We were in Dawson City to rededicate the old RCMP cemetary dating back to the gold rush period.

I have moved around a lot over the years and have had numerous calls including: VE7EKT, VE4ZZS, VE4ZS, VE7ARS, VA3ZW, VA3IED and now, VY1CO. Station set up  consists of a few different arrangements, but usually l use the 590sg with elecraft 500 watt tuner and KPA500 Amplifier. CW is the preferred mode. I also hope to get out with the KX3 and do some Mountain Top SOTA before the snow flies...fingers crossed. I spend a lot of time on 30m. I have collected and rebuilt a lot of Ten-Tec gear over the ages and miss some of the stuff I once had...from time to time I will put the old Kenwood 820s on for fun...real radios glow in the dark, after all.

On parade, rain or shine!

A brief comment on Contests: I am not a Contest enthusiest by any means...but I will get on from time to time and do my best to hand out  Region 1 or a VY1 to those interested. Again, I am NOT a contest station so appreciate your patience. To the extent it matters, this is a real on the ground station NOT a remote operation.

We are situated in  our new QTH--in Grizzly Valley on 9 acres-- it should lend itself well to antennas. Autumn  has seen the installation of a 80m doublet and the Hex beam is in service...rotator is now in place too.  I also have an inverted L up for 160 that doubles as a 40m vertical depending on how much wire I have attached.... I did have a loop up (I love loops) but given my remote location in terms of radio, I think the inverted L will serve me better. It loads up well on all bands, but needs more radials. I have about 45 in place but it could stand to have more...next season. . The panoramic photo was taken off the top deck looking South from East to West this past spring--you can see the temp antenna I had put up mid photo...held up with a skinny Aspen tree. Whatever works, right?

Above, the home brew balanced line that feeds the doublet some distance away through the trees...I swear by this stuff...simple and effective...

I apologize in advance if I only had a short QSO with you...I normally like to spend some time chatting but lately, conditions have changed so much the QSB can wipe out stations very quickly--especially if the Northern Lights are active. As beautiful as they are, when they appear I may as well turn the radio off. When conditions are good and I don't have a dozen stations calling its nice to sit back and discuss/compare antennas and get ideas from other operators.

Above, 7Kw solar installation...bigger than my last arrangement at the old QTH...winter means keeping snow off the panels but its not that much of a hasstle...our silly mutt "Grizzly'" also made his way into the pic...

Winter is effectively here now and the snow is flying...hopefully the bands hold up. Future plans include a half square for 80m and a beverage antenna for 160...all depends on how much time I have.

QSL options: I QSL 100 percent all cards received. The days of exchanging QSL cards, however,  seems a little dated but I do get a lot of requests for the  'Mountie' card so I will return QSL 100 percent all cards received with sufficient postage if you need a card.

More to follow in the weeks ahead...
