Retired USAF, now working for a living and playing when I can.

New Ham as of 3/3/2015.
Altho I have been around the hobby for most of my life, I never really had the time or interest until now.
Coming up on my 2nd Year Mark now and things are looking up... New Gear, New Adventures, New Fun :)

UPDATE 01/01/2017
Now that NPOTA has gone to the back burner... It's time to get back to POTA. For those not knowing.... WWFF has been around a lot longer than the 1 year special event NPOTA. Get to the main site by clicking on the big green circle... If you want the U.S. site, it is the egale picture.

"SPECIAL PLEA/REQUEST"
If you did activate a park for NPOTA last year, PLEASE, help us out and upload your .ADIF to w3aax@outlook.com so all of us that have been in the parks for a long time get some credit for it... Thanks

QSL Card Information

OK, I think I have it all automated now:
All logs from this site will be uploaded to LoTW as soon as I hit the submit button.
With the logging program I am using now (HRD suite), It will automatically upload to
eQSL.cc and HRDLOG.net

So, that gives you 4 spots to play with and confirm QSO.... I think that's enough.

I am also interested in collecting QSL cards like the traditional nostalgic way....
You know PAPER via bureau or even postal mail.
My goal will be to get more than my grandfather did while he was alive.
You can send your card confirming the QSO direct and I will send you one back.
There is no need for postage or self addressed stamped envelope...

It was cool getting my first QSL Card... BUT, now that I am getting the hang of things... well... it's gonna cost me a fortune in ink cartridges printing all the ones from just 2 of the places I have them at...
eQSL.cc and HRDLOG.net    SO....
I have put them online in a different place since I have lots of space there...
Here are the links if you are interested...

Couple pictures of my Rigs & Antennas.  I know... Don't laugh.... It's still early and money is tight....

Baofeng UV-5R
The Icom IC-7100.  The little Baofeng UV-5R.  Probably not the best in the world, but it does what I need at the moment. Newest addition to the hobby is this little quad bander for the car.  TYT TH-9800.
2m Ground Plane
2 meter ground plane anttena made from 5 coat hangers and an SO-239. Was cut for 146MHz but didn't do to bad on 70cm.  Fun project.  Crude.. Yes.... I made it to be mobile.. quick set up and tear down.  Two 5' pieces of 3/4" pvc, stuck in the mount of an old sattelite mount, which is screwed into the turnk of an old tree. Here is the Elk Antennas 2M/440L5 Dual-Band Antenna.  Another one I got for mobile operations.  Here was a quick setup using just one 5' section of 3/4" pvc, bunjied to the concret post.  Good thing about the Elk is that none of the parts are glued, so the number of configurations is unlimited mostly.  Or for sattelite tracking you don't even have to have it on a mast, and use the handle bar. Another addition to the antenna family.. This is the Buddipole Deluxe Version.  Got a bunch of other goodies with it like th 6m yagi kit, longer whips, Colunterpoise Wire Adapter.
Finally got a temp tower up 35' for the G5RV.  Had to do something till a solid one was built.. Got's lots a digg'n to do :) New addition to the collection of stuff.... Wife is thinking of taking test, what better way to keep in touch than to get antother little Baofeng :)
This is the Bandspringer Midi, 60m-10m.  Got it for lightweight gear I need for SOTA Activation.  Works Awesome and have used it at home but not yet in the woods ;) Hi Hi One 16'6" pole and two 10' poles for SOTA This is the EndFed 40-6m Antenna and Kit also for SOTA.  Have not had a chance to use it yet but will SOON....
New laptop for SOTA Activations Comparison to old laptop.... Combined the Elk Antenna and a old camera tripod and made a satellite tracking station :)
And the newest addition to the antenna farm :)  6 band Hexbeam... Only have it about 20' up at the moment... But once the temp stays at a nice range for me to get the base for the tower done.... well... it won't be long now.... (ok, will be longer than I thought... Sink Holes have been a problem this summer and now the beam is down for the winter.)

I guess this is where you put all your "I LOVE ME" stuff....
OK, I'll play too....... Here are some of the latest goodies....
