About Me

PLEASE NOTE:  I travel for 22 different states throughout the midwest for work and operate HF Mobile with a tarheel antenna or HF Stationary Mobile with a Buddipole antenna.

My name is Mikel Turner and I am proud to be W4OPS!!  I got my original call sign (KC0CPZ) back in 1998 right before I graduated from Northeast Nodaway High School in Ravenwood Missouri.  In September of 2011, I got my General License and changed my call sign to W4OPS.  I am active in emergency communications and love that aspect of Ham Radio.

My Travels / Hobbies

I work on and inspect signs at car dealerships.  This gives me the opportunity to travel to 22 different states in midwest and midsouth parts of the US.  I love to see all the beautiful countryside that America has to offer.  I have been to most major cities and take every opportunity I can to tour the areas I'm visiting.  Two of my favorite states are Missouri (my home state) and Tennessee (where I would like to retire).

My goal is to buy some land (40+ acres), start a small farm and become more self sufficient.

I have a vast assortment of hobbies.

     - Hiking, camping and off roading. I'm involved with an outdoor off road group called Land Ops.

     - Geocaching (MikelTurnerOnline is my user name on Geocaching.com)

     - 4 wheeling on my 2014 Polaris 570.  I usually ride in northen Minnesota or northern Wisonsin.

     - Target shooting, hunting & reloading.  I enjoy a variety of hand guns and long guns.

     - Gardening, cooking, canning & dehydrating

     - Filming quick videos and uploading them onto my Youtube page - https://www.youtube.com/turnerunedited

My Equipment:

My current list of equipment (as of 10.10.2015) includes:

     - Kenwood TM-V71A dual band radio

     - Icom 706 MKIIG with a Tarheel or G5RV antenna

     - Yaesu FT 270 2 Meter Handhelds (wi/ Additional "AA" Battery Pack)

     - Vertex MLS-100 External Speaker

     - Moblie Allstar Node - Beaglebone Black, asterisk software

Where To Find Me:

I monitor 146.52 in my work truck during daylight hours.

On HF I usually hang out on 40 meters.

I also like to listen to several 2 meter repeats that have AllStar on them.

     - 41557 - Memphis, TN, USA - http://memhamwan.org/

     - 29752 - Little Rock, AR, USA - http://k5nsx.com/

     - 72066 - UK Hub, Manchester, UK - http://www.m0hoy.com/

I got involved in AllStar recently and really enjoy making long distant contacts using 2 meters.  The node for my vehicle is  #41693.

Other Interesting Repeaters

146.385 PL 146.2 - Keller Peak Repeater, California, USA - http://www.kpra.net/ - This is a cool repeater with a lot of interesting nets.  To access this repeater via IRLP use node # 3216
