I have been interested in radio since I can remember and was first licensed in 1975 as WN8WNF. I taught computer science at Meridian Junior High School and retired in May of 2005 at the age of 54.
In December 2016, I bought a ID-51 and a ID-5100. I'm running a raspberry Pi 3 with a DVMEGA as a hotspot. You can usually find me on 01C, 24C, or 30C.
My hobbies include flying, sail boating, lighthouses, fishing, and a member of USCG Auxiliary Flotilla 24-1 in Bay City, Michigan My Flotilla's Webpage
Amateur Radio Light House Society number ARLHS# 527. Feld Hell # 2533
Old Man International Single Sideband Society Charter and VIP Member number OMISS# 59.
I enjoy working openings on 6 meters and am having a blast. I built a halo out of 1/2 inch copper tubing and a 3 element beam. When at home I am in EN73 and when up north at the 5th wheel trailer I'm in EN64 a Hustler 4-BTV with radials.
One of my HF antennas is a Hustler 4BTV and use that on the higher HF bands.
One of the recently fun activities was receiving WAS on the mode JT65 HF.
In 2004, I built my own cedar strip kayak and spend all the time I can in the summer paddling the lakes and rivers of Michigan. Its a 17' 6" Guillemot design and it has been a great boat. Our kayaking club is paddling at least twice a week in the summer and they are a great bunch to go with when I not out solo.
Thanks for looking me up and have a great day.
