My first taste of radio was in the 1970's, as a teen on the citizens band, AM. At some point my brother Richard gave me a Sears model 934 16 channel  SSB radio, and I started operating on channel 16 SSB 16 watts and a Antenna specialists M400, that gave me my first taste of DX, working into the Carribbean to Barbados.

Licensed since December 30, 1986 as a Novice. My Novice call was KB2CAS.  Technician, N2HCP May 5, 1987. General September 8, 1987. Extra WF2D on March 29, 1988 .

My radio interests range from SWLing/Scanning. I enjoying DXing on the ham bands, on SSB and CW. As well as digital modes. I am also active on the E.C.A.R.S net on 7.255 MHz LSB, most mornings, E.C.A.R.S # 20705. I am also finding out that I like to operate on 60 meters.

Current HF station  consists of an Icom IC-7200, Radio Shack HTX-10. Heathkit SB-220 amplifier. A recently restored Vibroplex standard iambic keyer, with a Heathkit SA-5010 u-matic memory keyer, Icom IC-AT500 auto tuner , Heathkit HM-2140-A SWR bridge, Heathkit IO-4550 oscilloscope, MFJ-259B antenna analyzer. Antennas at the moment are an inverted vee cut for 40 meters, up at 35 ft. dipoles for 20 meters, and a 10 meter dipole. I also enjoy experimenting/constructing, wire antennas.

I use HRD-Ver. 5.24.038 and DM780 for digital modes, running on an AMD 6X86 @ 2.7 GHz .

I also use on occasion an old Radio Shack DX-392/Sangean ATS 818ACS for SW Broadcast listening.

Base VHF, I use a Icom 2100, into a Ringo Ranger ARX 2 up around 35 feet, as well as a Radio Shack Pro-2051 scanner for monitoring on a small discone antenna up about 30 feet for VHF/UHF.

Mobile VHF, I use an Icom IC-228-A/H, with a Radio Shack 2 meter 5/8 wave, magnet mount.

Handheld transceivers are ICOM IC-T2H, and I just recently acquired a Baofeng BF-F8+ for VHF/UHF use.

Kudos have to go to my Elmers NM2T Tom, AD1AM Adam, KA2NDX Wayne and N2VV/SK Charlie, and also numerous others who all at various times have provided invaluable help and guidance during various stages of my tenure as a ham.

My amateur friends often refer to me as Hoad, a derivative from HWD on CW, that was bestowed on me, by my longtime friend, Adam-AD1AM

See you on the Bands, 73 De WF2D Howard
