Hi there,

I was first licensed in early 1977 as VK2NEV, which at that time was the new Australian ‘Novice” grade of license.  I was 13 years old then and the ‘Novice’ class license was regarded as a very basic way to get started on air (5wpm-CW, regs and a 50 question multi-choice theory exam).  In 1982 I upgraded to the highest grade ‘Unrestricted’ license (nicknamed Full-Call) and became VK2AMB. However, a curious issue became quickly apparent where that call-sign had been double issued, so I then became VK2ABT.  A few years on this changed to my current call-sign, VK2BXE.

I operate 3 stations; The main station (in the primary photo) is at my weekend home on St. Huberts Island about 90km north of Sydney NSW..

The second station is aboard my boat, Lennox, a 45 foot motor yacht which is dockside on Sydney Harbour and obviously we move about a bit, mostly within a 300knott range of berth.  That station is simple – An FTdx-3000, a small THP amp and a motorised Screwdriver antenna on the fly-bridge roof, but it works surprisingly well and I have a lot of fun with it..

The third is at my home in Port Vila, Vanuatu (as YJ0-MB).

I am a businessman in the telecommunications industry, and enjoy our hobby very much.

Cheers

Mike VK2BXE / YJ0-MB
