Hello and Welcome to the Official Amateur Radio Station of the Astronomical Society of Victoria For 20 years the station has been manned by Russell Ward - VK3DRW a member of ASV and has become familiar voice to the many stations that call in regularly on the net that operates every Friday evening at 22:00 EST on 3541KHz LSB.
Russell handed the Microphone over to Clint Jeffrey - VK3CSJ of Narre Warren South in Melbourne mid 2009, Clint is a member of ASV and is the current director of the Radio Astronomy Section and has been involved in activities since 1994. It is hoped to have Russell back sharing the microphone on alternative broadcast sessions yet to be determined.
Please call in at 22:00 Hours EDST or 11:00 UTC (10:00pm local), from there for about 60 minutes I present News and Updates about things that are Astronomical in nature I then open up for signal reports and comments and general chat.
I'm now broadcasting through Melbourne's Digital Television Repeater VK3RTV2 if you live in the Melbourne area you can see the Repeater on 446.5 DVB-T you must have a Television that has Manuel Tuning capabilites, using the 'Auto-Tune' feature will not work for 446.5 MHz. VK3RTV transmits at 100 Watts into a broad beamwidth antenna covering Melbourne down to Geelong. General rule is if you can see the Television Towers at Mt Dandenong there's a good chance you'll receive VK3RTV1/2 as it is located at OLINDA, a good Yagi Antenna designed for Digital TV Reception should work.
Any Signal Reports from Shortwave Listeners or anyone listening in via the internet please send feedback about ASV Radio to firstname.lastname@example.org
Audio Streaming....Go to the ASV homepage and click on the 'about us' tab go down to 'Leon Mow Radio Observatory' click on 'LMRO Menu' and go down to 'Media' click on that to reveal a whole lot of stuff go to the bottom of the page where it says 'Listen to the ASV Broadcast on Friday Nights at 10pm' and if I'm streaming you should here Hi Fi Audio. Or Click Here
You'll also see two video screens at the bottom of the page which are a video stream from the Melbourne ATV repeater VK3RTV via the BATC (British Amateur Television Club) video server, you should see VK3EKH transmission on VK3RTV/2 which is the image on the rigth side.
The Station uses a Heil PR-40 Studio Microphone and the W2IHY 8 Band Eq and EQplus device to enchance the on air signal, so connect up a Hi Fi speaker to your receiver and open your IF Shift to super wide and enjoy Hi Fi SSB audio!
The Transmitter is a ICOM 756Pro 3 running 100 Watts input to a Yaesu FL2100Z Linear to an Inverted V Dipole suspended 13 meters above the ground at the Apex, the Linear is running at reduced Plate Voltage which ensures a power output of up to 400 Watts is maintained.
