Home - Flex 6300, MFJ 993b tuner. Antenna #1: 120' (36.5m) doublet flattop (80m half wave dipole wire antenna fed with 450 ohm ladder line) hanging at 110' (33m) between pine trees. Broadside pattern is East/West and tunes up real nice for multi-band use. Extremely happy with the performance with a very low radiation angle! Fortunate to have low noise levels at this location. VHF / UHF is into a simple homebuilt J-pole antenna at 30' (10m).

Office - Icom 706mkiig, LDG Z-11 PROII tuner. HF antenna is an end fed 131' (40m) wire with 64:1 Balun originating at 85' (26m) from the commercial building's clock tower flying to the SSE to a Dacron rope weighted pulley system anchored to an oak tree at 65' (20m). Hired a local tree service with a 70' (22m) boom to hang the swagged pulley. No way I would have made it too far off the ground, let alone into the top of the tree! The 2m antenna is a Jetstream JDT2B dipole on the clock tower at 75 feet.

RV - My wife and I enjoy dry camping (off grid) and usually are somewhere off the beaten path several times each month. The HF antenna support is with Flagpole Buddy quick ladder mount and a Spiderbeam 12m telescopic pole. Flying an end feed 80 - 10 wire antenna as an inverted "L" with a 64:1 balun at 9' (3m) vertical to 45' (14m) and the other end of the wire as high as I can shoot it using a slingshot or pnuematic tennis ball launcher and weighted line on a reel (my own creations from Amazon and plumbing parts). Love the noise level below S0 in the Sierra Mountains with over 7000' (2100m) camping locations in the summer.

Hobbies - Am fortunate to have a profession that is also a favorite hobby! Been active in the satellite industry for many years and into C and KU band FTA (Free To Air) reception since the early 80's. My company is Titanium Satellite and we design, manufacture and distribute products such as the ASC1 DiSEqC 1.2 dish controller and several models of C-band phase locked loop LNBFs. Very active on several FTA satellite forums such as satelliteguys.us and legalfreetoair.com.

Here are a few articles published a few years back in Tele AudioVision magazine:

Photos - RV boondock camping in the Sierras, regular seasonal riding the snowmobile and UTV (side by side) to explore the mountains, ghost towns and mines.

California QSO Party Location Oct. 7 & 8, 2017

Participated in the 2017 California QSO Party from the least populated county in California, Alpine Country - ALPI. Orion Endres (AI6JB) and I took a short expedition to the remote 8900' Leviathan Peak fire lookout located on Monitor Pass and worked portable SSB on 80/40/20/15/10m bands. Great band conditions and beautiful aspen leaves in their brilliant fall colors. Winds of 50+ mph buffeted our camp and we had to stop contesting to add side guy lines at mid span on the wire antennas to keep them flying.  Grid: DM08eq

Until we talk again!
