I've always been intrigued with electronics and radios.

I had a CB radio back when the airwaves were clean, (if anyone can remember that).  I was always amazed with the magic of radio and became very interested.

I worked in Communications for a while and worked on commercial radio, telephone, microwave and security systems.  Most of the work I did was on
Motorola Smartnet Trunked Systems including the backbone system, mobiles, portables, and a 911 Dispatch Center.

In 1992, I got my General Radio/Telephone Operators License (GROL).  Ham radio seemed intriguing and in 1996 I received my ticket as a Technician. I couldn't get serious about trying to learn morse code and didn't upgrade my license to General until 2013.

I finally got my brother (K5SMD) interested in 2013 and that caused me to go ahead and get my General ticket.  I upgraded to Extra in 2015.

I changed my original call from KC5WEJ to the vanity call K5SGD.

I am accredited as a Volunteer Examiner by the ARRL and W5YI.
