Shawn Wyant,Waterford, MI

Formally KC8IIK, KD8YOX, and now K8SAW

Started my Ham Radio fun in 1997 while attending Michigan Technological University in Houghton, MI.

What made me interested in Ham Radio?

While in college I joined the local Search and Rescue Group (Superior Search and Rescue) in the Keweenaw Peninsula of Michigan's Upper Peninsula.  Most of the members wear hams and sounded like it could be a fun activity to get involved with.  I attended my first swap there and took my Technician Test and passed (KC8IIK).

Then I moved to Southeastern Michigan and became a member of USECA radio club.  I lost interested and let my license expire.

Got back involved on 5-14-14 by taking my Technician Test again and passed (KD8YOX).  That evening I tried for the General but failed the test.  The next month on 6-18-14 I went back and passed my General Test (KD8YOX).

I decided to change my callsign to a vanity call of K8SAW on 9-15-15.

I joined Civil Air Patrol (gocivilairpatrol.com and miwg.cap.gov) in Oct of 2005 and became involved in different parts of the program which included being the Communication Officer for the local squadron.  I have held many different positions within Michigan Wing.  My current position is Director of Communications for Michigan Wing.

Personal radio equipment includes: ID-5100A and ID-51A 2m/440 D-Star radios, IC-7300 HF Radio.
