I have been a HAM since January 2017.  Got my Extra ticket in April.  As a kid in the 60s, I built a crystal radio with my Dad. That sparked an interest that lingered for decades.  As a light infantryman, I built field-expedient antennas to increase the range of the RT-841, then got into SWL when I found myself in foreign lands with no other way to get news other than the BBC World Service.   I retired from the Army in 2013 after 36 years of service.

I have a Yaesu FT-857D that I use most often in the shack and on SOTA and POTA activations.  I also have an FT-757GX that is almost exclusively used for PSK31.

All of my antennas are in my attic.  I have 10m and 20m dipoles,  and an MFJ Hi Q Loop.  I am most often on 20m SSB, though as of July 2017, I am making rapid progress learning code.

When I am not on the air, I am likely to be running, riding, paddling, orienteering, birding, or otherwise enjoying myself out on the road or in the woods.
