All About Me

Hello and thanks for looking me up. My name is John and my call is KD8SWT I am a fifteen year old ham. I was first licenced at the age of twelve. I took and passed the technician test on July 28, 2012 and then recieved the call a few days later. I then continued to upgrade one year later to general. I took the general test on August 8, 2013. Now I enjoy making HF contacts all over the U.S. and sometimes, around the world.

My Ham History

My Great-Grandfather (now SK) was a ham and one of the founding people of the Genesee County Radio Club. Then my Grandfather was a ham. He passed away in September 2014. My Grandmother is also a ham. Her call is KB8BCF. My Father is also a ham and enjoys playing with things just as much as I do! Now I am a ham, so that makes me a fourth generation ham. My Great-Grandfather's call was W8JYP, My Grandfather's call is WA8TCY, and my Father's call is KA8GOU. On top of that, My Aunt and Uncle are licensed. Their calls are WA8MKF and WA8SYQ. A few of my cousins are also licensed.

Other Hobies Of Mine

Other than radio I like to go fishing. I usually go for Blue Gill, and Perch. I also play the drums and other percussion insterments. I am on the Howell High School drumline. My freshman year I marched cymbols, and now I play snare. Lastly I am a star scout in Boy Scouts of troop 364. In my troop, I served one term as Senior Patrol Leader (SPL). As SPL, I was the head youth in the troop. I then served one term as Assistant Senior Patrol Leader. Now once again, I'm SPL.

Here are a few pictures from my adventures...

Here we are at the Howell High School Homecomming Parade. I am the cymbol on the far left playing.

Here is one of my favorite scouting stories...

I am on the far left, and my canoeing partner is on the far right. We have just flipped for the first time that day. (We flipped trying to flip our friend's canoe.) He is now in the middle trying to help us un-flip ours. this contunued for the rest of the day. we managed to flip 4 and a half more times that day. All in a days fun, eh?

This is a picture of me (on the right) serving dinner at D-BAR-A Scout Ranch durring summer camp 2015.

The next picture was taken from Put-In Bay. This was the 25th annual scout camporee. As you can see, it was highly attended. Scouts from Michigan and Ohio came to the event. The picture was taken on top of the monument on Put-In Bay.

Where To Find Me

You can usually find me anywhere on the general class SSB parts of the HF bands. I like 20, 40, 80, 17 and 10 meters. Sometimes you can find me on 40 meter CW. I also enjoy the digital modes. Some of my favorites are, PSK31, RTTY, and SSTV. I am active on the local repeaters around Howell and also on 146.52.

73! and hopefully we can make contact with you some day. And for those who already have made conact with me, Hopefully we can talk agian.

QSL Information

Send me your cards! I am working on WAS right now and still need most of the states. I'll send you a card in return! (no SASE required). I try to upload to LoTW after each operating day.
