Thanks for stopping by.

My interest in ham radio dates back to the 1960's when a friend loaned me his shortwave receiver.  I lugged the big heavy Hallicrafters up the stairs and into my room, tossed a wire out the window for an antenna and my SWL career was on its way.  I enjoyed listening to amateur and broadcast stations from all over the world. I kept a log and even collected some QSL cards from stations I listened to.

Fast forward to 2014.   With the encouragement of a couple of ham friends I passed the test  for my Tech license in June and passed my General in November.

Friends in our local ham club, W7AQ helped me get my station set up and on the air.  Special thanks to Mike, W7CCY, Bob WB7WAM and Chuck, N7AAG for all your help and advice.

I have enjoyed making contacts on 2 meters, Echo Link, IRLP, JT65 and on 10 – 80 meters on HF.  I like to check in to the ARMS Net, the Noon Time Net, Scotty's Roundtable and helping to relay for the Pacific Seafarers Net when conditions allow.

I also enjoy experimenting with portable operations on HF.

In April of 2016 I upgraded to Extra and made some upgrades to my station as well.

In the shack  is a Kenwood TM 261 for 2 meters. I added a Yaesu FtDx 1200 for HF. I am enjoying learning the many features of this radio. The power supply is an Alinco DM 33 OMV switching power supply. I also said goodbye to the old faithful G5RV Jr. antenna after many successful contacts. In its place is a home built 92 foot dipole about 25 feet up. It is fed at the center with 52 feet of 300 ohm ladder line into a newly added MFJ 974 B balanced line tuner.

I have found ham radio to be a very enjoyable and interesting hobby.   I look forward to meeting you on the air soon.

73,

Peter KG7MVH
