Greetings Fellow Hams,

Please! Call me Wes. I was a very active Novice (KA6AMI) for about 18 months in San Bruno, Ca, back in the mid 70's. I was preparing to take the General test. In those days you had five amateur operator classes, And you were able to jump Technician back then and take the General test pending on your Morse Code ability and Technical Savvy.

I was a little over a month away from a scheduled General test when chaos (divorce) struck. Hey! What can I say? (Crap Happens) The worst part! was having to move and take down my excellent station. I had Drake Twins and accessories to boot, Hooked up to a Hustler 5BTV Vertical and ground mounted with radials on a side of a hill. It was almost effortless to make contacts over the Novice frequencies anywhere authorized.

Moved to a apartment and needed to downsize. Sold the Drakes, I really regretted that. Bought a Yaesu FT-707 System. (Still Have It, Like New)  Used a balcony antenna with changeable band coils and a jumper wire. It gave me a bandwidth of about the width of a single dime without having to re-tune on the lower frequencies. FUBAR! RFI plus STATIC at S7 to S9, Can't hear anything except the most strongest stations. Got tired of fighting with landlords and disappointments, Boxed up my Yeasu after numerous attempts trying way's to operate with out interference to other stations due to the lack of heard signals. Never set them up again, Everywhere I went "STATIC & RFI" to the nth degree. I was not going to risk getting in trouble with Fox Charlie Charlie. Back then the FCC was really hard core, Did there job with extreme diligence. Honestly! Apartment life really sucks for most Amateur HF Radio Operators. Eventually! In 2010 I moved to Reno Nevada to help my Dad.

In 2014 I met a ham at a Xmas party. Got me all pumped up! On Feb 11, 2015 my Technician ticket was granted. On June 2, 2015 my General ticket was granted. At 65 I'm finally on the air again. (Note: Feb 18th, 2017 I passed my AMATEUR EXTRA)  I've been using a Kenwood TS-2000 with a Comet GP-15 (6, 2 & 70cm) Triband Vertical. I also have a LDG KT-100 Autotuner hooked into the TS-2000 and attached to a G5RV JR 40 - 6m Dipole from W8AMZ in a text book Inverted V configuration due to space limitations. A real quality weather built antenna. (Works Well) I did bring the FT-707 out of mothbalIs and hooked it up to a LDG AT-Pro100II Autotuner also attached to the G5RV via Antenna Switch. I use my FT-707 for HF Ragchew and Contesting and the TS-2000 for HF Digital & Vhf / Uhf needs. FYI! That 40 year old YEASU is doing just fine, has a great reciever and plenty of power. Also I have a ICOM R8500 programmed to scan the bands with a AOR SA-7000 Antenna to help determine when frequencies are active. I also enjoy talking on a CS 800 Uhf DMR mobile radio which I have based and attached to a separate ground plane antenna. And I have a CS 750 DMR HT as well. Once in a while you will catch me yapping on a Yeasu duel band Vhf / Uhf HT. If you hear me on the bands, Give me a holler on HF Phone, Digital HF, 2m & 70cm or on a DMR talk group and hopefully CW soon. (I'm Practicing)

73 & Thank's for stopping by,

Wes - KG7QXE

P.S. My other interest when not on the radio are, Civilian Defensive Weapons TRAINING & PRACTICE. I also help support my local radio club! (Sierra Nevada Amateur Radio Society) aka SNARS @ www.snars.org as a Net Control Manager & Operator for the Daily Noon Net and presently a active member of the Board of Directors. When I can, I pitch in at club functions when needed. And when the mood strikes, I will indulge in some really fine Italian Cooking.                 ( Sorry for the Cloudy Day Pic's. But guess what? It's WINTER! And a tad Brrreeeezzy. )
