I have been interested in Ham Radio since I was 14 as WN2UND (1963-1964) and operated mainly 40 meter CW using a TX Knight T60 and RX Knight Span Master. In those days the novice ticket was for 1 year and I let it expire.

MILITARY - United States Coast Guard

In 1970 I joined the United States Coast Guard and went to Radioman School on Governors Island, New York. This duty station had a club station W2AIR where I caught the ham radio bug again and became licensed as WA2PXV in 1972. I was very active at W2AIR and enjoyed performining hundreds of phone patches for deployed military personnel. Especially enjoyed handling traffic for KC4USA and KC4USB in the Antarctic.

In 2013 changed my call from WA2PXV to KW2AIR which reminds me of my W2AIR U.S. Coast Guard days and has a better CW weight.

On June 28 2014 I passed my Extra exam.  I studied for about 3 weeks and attribute getting a 98% score to the online site links listed here.  I purchased the Gorden West Extra book and didn't find it as useful as these sites that simulate the exam with ability to concentrate on sections needing more study. hamradiolicenseexam.com and hamstudy.org

I am currently active on all HF bands mainly digital modes JT65, JT9.  I work alot of DX worldwide. Just view my QRZ.com log to see some of the contacts I have had in this area of the world with a very modest shack.

QSL CARD (QSL by "Mr. QSL" custom QSL cards k4jsg.com)

Sodus Outer Lighthouse - Sodus Point, New York

The Great Sodus Bay is one of the largest and deepest natural harbors on Lake Ontario. After a series of jetties and piers were built to protect the harbor in 1834, the Sodus Outer Lighthouse was established to mark the harbor entrance. This lighthouse is located 30 miles to the east of my QTH. I took the photo, that appears on my QSL card, on a very windy day with a 200mm lens, neutral density filter and a 3 second time expsosure.
