Originally licensed as a Novice (KA2AEM) while stationed at Hanau FRG, Fleigerhorst Kasern (1977-1980).  U.S. Army Signal Corps (via Fort Gordon, GA) while on active duty (1975 - 1982) - MOS 05C Radio Teletype and 31G Communications Chief.  Operated and supervised teams with AN/GRC-122, AN/GRC-142 and AN/VSC-3 Radio Teletype Rigs. Then spent 17 years in the Army Reserve changing over to 19E/19K Armor (Tank Commander, Senior Tank Commander and Training NCO); then 19Z when promoted to First Sergeant of an Calvary Training Troop and a Armor Training Company at Fort Knox, Kentucky.

Returned to HAM radio about a year after retirement in 2012 with over 30 years of Federal Government service, and over 30 years away from amateur radio.  Licensed Technician (KK4VQZ), then General (N2DOT) and upgraded to Amateur Extra January 2016, formally N2DOT now NK2J.

Favorite Modes - SSB and RTTY and trying to get back up to CW speed - I guess because of my Army roots.  Trying to get into the other digital modes as well.  Starting to explore DMR via SharkRF OpenSpot (no local repeater) and TYT MD-380, MD-390 UHF radios.

Equipment:  Station A (office) - Kenwood TS-590S into Alpha Delta Dipole, TA-33 Jr, or Comet CHA-250B Verticle; and, Station B (QTH) - Kenwood TS-440S into an Alpha Delta Dipole, Cushcraft A3S w/40M Kit, or HyGain AV-680 Verticle, and an Ameritron AL-811H when needed.

Occupation:  23 Years total military service, retired 1st Sergeant.  Retired Investigator/Program Manager with U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Admistration (USDOT/FMCSA); Currently doing some consulting for transportation companies and hazardous materials transporters/shippers.

Hobbies:  Golfing, Hunting and Amateur Radio most of the time.
