First licensed as N0HPT in St. Paul, MN. Moved to Chicago, upgraded to NY9D in 1987. Former member of WCRA (Wheaton, IL). Moved to Phoenix, AZ and Dayton, OH. ARRL Life Member.

Moved back to Minnesota in 1996. Active in the Metro Area Repeater Association and Mining Amateur Radio Club. Currently Chair of Medical Communications for the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon.

Author of the QRP Asylum series for 73 Amateur Radio Today, and Updating the W1FB Sardine Sender in November 2003 QST, and Sardine-Ceiver in February 2014 CQ (and the 2015 Calendar).  There are stories in QST Public Service 12/04 and 1/05 on the MN 145.67 Packet Network, and Amateur Radio at the Twin Cities Marathon. Had two articles on the ARRL Web site- D-Star at the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon, and Site Development 101.

Presented at the 2008 TAPR Conference (Chicago), and TAPR 2013 (Seattle) and at the D-Star User's Group Forum in Dayton, 2009. Also presented at the 2008 Public Health Preparedness Summit in Washington, DC.

Active on 2M/440FM and D-Star. Built a 1.2 GHZ FM repeater in Oakdale, MN on 1285.00.

Home station is a G5RV in a big oak tree, and several small Yagis and a GP98 on the chimney at 25 feet for 2m/440/1.2. We are 12 years into our statewide AX.25 packet network on 145.670.

We developed trivnetdb, a Linux database replacement for ARES-DATA. Trivnetdb allows TCP/IP users and AX.25 Packet users to access mail, conferencing and databases that can be built on the fly for shelter operations, etc. It even has a new web interface. We are promoting the use of mesh networking, IP phones and an open source mail and conferencing package called Citadel.

We have many Icom D-Star DD mode repeater modules on the air in secure rooftop locations, supporting most of the Twin Cities metro area. We are expanding on our regional deployment of D-Star linked repeaters, centered around Reflector 53A, which is running inexpensively in a VPS hosting center.
