Operating portable on South Mountain in Phoenix Arizona.

My name is George, I live in Ely Minnesota, Gateway to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. I am married to my best friend Sarah WØASA and have one son named Asa and a stepson named Asher.

Check out my family's website http://hamwiththefam.com. We host a blog about our adventures in Ham Radio and life in general.

I have been licensed since 2010 my first callsign was KD0LQN which I then got the call WX4GEO. My current callsign is WØPHX. The PHX stands for Phoenix (I travel there lots) and for the 1979 Pontiac Trans Am that my dad had which my brother now owns.

I enjoy operating outside the shack. I participate in SOTA, POTA/WWFF, and did one activation during ARRL NPOTA. I enjoy doing presentations on being on the air from the outdoors and will gladly talk to anyone interested in portable operating.

I am a Police Officer, Firefighter, and First Responder. I am a certified Drug Recognition Expert. I am the President of the Vermilion Range Amateur Radio Club and also a member of the Mesabi Wireless Amateur Radio Club and Maricopa Amateur Radio Association. Aside from Ham Radio and Work, I umpire baseball and softball and referee hockey. I enjoy hiking, working out, Jeeping, playing music, and flying.

I am a net control operator for the Northeastern Minnesota Public Safety Net which runs every Sunday at 8pm Central on the LSAC repeater system and for the Tuesday Night 2000 Net every Tuesday night at 8pm Central on the LSAC repeater system. On 2/11/2017 I filled in as net control for the Iron Range Net (and think I will help out when I can) which runs every Saturday at 8am Central on 3.919 or around there.

I enjoy working any mode and trying out new modes. I am a casual ham but mostly enjoy the outdoors.

My equipment consists of an Icom IC-7300, Yaesu FT-857D, Yaesu FTM-400XDR Mobile, Yaesu FTM-100DR base/Node Radio, HRI-200 WIRES-X internet repeater enhancement system, and a Yaesu FT2DR HT.

Currently I have a 80 meter OCF dipole at home along with a Tram 1480 for VHF/UHF/Wires-X. My 2015 Jeep Wrangler has a Larson dual band antenna on a Rocky Road Antenna Mount.

I also have a DV4Mini and a Raspberry Pi 3 to allow for mobile Fusion.
