I am an assistant research professor at the New Jersey Institute of Technology Center for Solar-Terrestrial Research (NJIT-CSTR). I am very interested in how amateur radio can help us understand more about the physics of the ionosphere and am the lead organizer of the HamSCI project.

I completed my Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering in Spring 2016 at the SuperDARN HF radar laboratory at Virginia Tech. I was also involved in the Virginia Tech Amateur Radio Association (VTARA), where I coordinated the VE team. Ham radio interests include HF, CW, HF propagation, and scout radio. My work in scout radio includes involvement with the W2FSR station at Forestburg Scout Reservation in NY, as well as working on the K2BSA staff at the National Scout Jamboree.

In the spring semester of 2010, I had the good fortune to study at the University Center in Svalbard (UNIS). The profile picture shows me standing in front of the EISCAT Svalbard Radar, which is a 500 MHz 1 MW system used for ionospheric studies. In addition to studies, there were many other great opportunities in the arctic.

I was in McMurdo Station, Antarctica, primarily active as KC4USV on Phone and CW from the club station from December 5 - December 30, 2014.

Listen to Christmas in Antarctica!

Each year, the residents of McMurdo Station, Antarctica celebrate Christmas by singing Christmas Carols to the remote, Antarctic field camps on the HF radio.  This year, we are asking ham radio operators around the world to listen in and e-mail short wave listening reports
telling us how far away the carols are heard.  Listen on 7995 kHz USB on 24 December 2014 2300z (December 25 1200 New Zealand Time) and e-mail reports to w2naf@arrl.net.

For a Christmas in Antarctica SWL QSL card, please send an SASE to my Blacksburg address.  Special cards will be made for this event.

Merry Christmas!

I was in Svalbard at JW5E from 23 - 30 May 2014, active on phone and CW.

Here is a video tour of the JW5E station where I am staying:

Please QSL direct with SASE to W2NAF or via BURO.

I was active from Adak Island during August and September of 2012.  For information about the Adak Island radar build, please see http://vt.superdarn.org/tiki-read_article.php?articleId=100. QSL via direct (SASE please) and the bureau.
