I obtained my Novice license, KB4LDQ, in 1984. My call was changed to N4OYW when I upgraded to Tech Plus (remember that class). I grabbed W4EDP when the FCC first allowed Vanity Call Signs.
I'm a member of the Chattanooga Amateur Radio Club in Chattanooga, TN as well as the Cleveland Amateur Radio Club in Cleveland, TN and the Tri-State Amateur Radio Club in NW GA. I feel that as much as I use a clubs equipment, I should help with costs associated with that equipment and I'm also enjoying being a part of the clubs activities.
I am very involved with digital modes... D-STAR, Yaesu Fusion (C4FM) and DMR. On D-STAR I can be found on W4RRG (Chattanooga - IRCDDB), W4PL (Chattanooga - D-Plus) and Reflector REF077C. On Fusion / C4FM I can be found on W4EDP 442.725 (Chattanooga - Wires-X) and the America Link Room on Wires-X. On DMR I can be found on W4PL 444.150 (Chattanooga - BrandMeister) and Brandmeister TG 3147. I also use DVAPs, DVDongles, DVMegas and DV4Minis when I'm around the house or traveling.
As far as local / regional repeaters go, I am usually listening and hanging around repeaters in the Chattanooga TN / Lookout Mountain, GA/TN area - especially the ones listed below (being at a 2100+ft ASL elevation on the mountain top gets you ALOT of choices!). I tend to be on DMR, D-Star, Fusion, 2m and 70cm the most, although I do monitor 1.25m and 6m most of the time.
I currently own and/or maintain several repeaters in and around the Chattanooga area:
My wife Terri, is N9ZEN. She is heavily involved in helping me with all the repeater installations and maintenance... and it's all I can do to keep her off of the towers! She's not to big into the digital modes, but can be found weekly on the ARES and SkyWarn nets (146.610 and 146.790). She likes the emergency prep and responce groups and also enjoys putting together documentation and helping with coordination.
On my computer systems, I run MAC OSX and Linux mainly... I try to stay as far away from Windows as I can! :-)
