I go by my middle name, Alexander, but the FCC still works on a first name basis. So, with the federal paperwork I am James A...., but on the air it's Alex.

I operate almost entirely HF and prefer contest, DX, RTTY, and FT8 QSOs. Along with that, I also just like adding contacts to the old log book.  I think the short contest QSO to be a thing of beauty and grace.  Appropriately enough I enjoy digital modes, digital contests, and my favorite modes of operation now are RTTY and FT8. In fact, I think Joe Taylor deserves another Nobel Prize for the WSJT suite of goodies.

I QSL via bureau or direct. I reply to all DX and you need not provide IRC, just an SAE. For direct domestic requests, please send along a SASE. Logbook of the World is another avenue for QSLs from my station. I upload data at least weekly to LotW. As a matter of practice, I do not use eQSL; however, if you need an eQSL confirmation for a QSO with me, let me know and I will attempt to take care of the request.

For OMISS, my OMISS number is 6363 and I QSL via the OMISS bureau or direct, at your option. For digital modes I am PODXS 070 Club number 1008, EPC number 8948, and BARTG number 8331. QCWA assigned me membership number 37246. Also, I have memberships in the ARRL and the RSGB. With the former I am a traffic handler and a volunteer examiner. I hold ARRL's WAS (53852), WAS Digital with FT8 endorsement, WAS RTTY, DXCC (45027), DXCC 20 meters, and DXCC Digital.

Locally I am a member of the Carolina DX Association, the Western Carolina Amateur Radio Society, and the Thermal Belt Amateur Radio Club. Also, I serve as a volunteer curator at the Asheville Radio Museum and the license trustee for the museum’s amateur radio station.

I upload to LotW.

I also upload to Club Log. Club Log provides this nice utility that lets you check my log for QSO's where we may have worked.

I support the DX Code of Conduct.
