This is going to be our Christmas vacation on the Maldives, escaping the  cold and nasty weather in central Europe. My wife and I will enjoy the  beauty of Kandima Island and first and foremost, do nothing :-) If this should get too boring, I will pull out my Rig to hopefully have some nice  contacts on the HF Bands. Probably I will be mostly spending my time on  digital modes like JT65 and FT8. For the latest updates and announcements check my Twitter account.

Kudos to the Communications Authority of Maldives for the quick license turnaround ! And Kudos goes also to the Resort Management of Kandima for giving permission to operate from the Island !

Hope to see you on the Air ! 73

Update January 2 2018

Finally back home again, already missing the Island very badly. Just uploaded all the logs to eQSL and LoTW, a total of 824 QSO's in 8 Days holiday style operating. I am very satisfied with the Results, including 10 Olivia QSO's which I really enjoyed and which was a nice variety to the endless semi automatic repetition of the FT8 contacts. Tried some SSB QSO's as well, but the pileup was incredible, need to improve my skills there. I was very surprised how well the HyEndFed Antenna worked, together with the Saltwater of the Indian Ocean which was a real booster.

Finally I have to thank my wife Daniela for letting me do all this while on our honeymoon, we had a wonderful time on Kandima.
73 to all of you and a happy and healthy 2018 !

FT8/JT65 Operation

In order to reach high numbers of successful FT8/JT65 contacts following considerations are important:

  1. Follow these FT8 DX Operating Guidelines
  2. I will work split mode
  3. Don't transmit on my TX Frequency
  4. I will prefer stations sending "-RPRT" instead of Locator
  5. QSO will be logged after I decode your "RRR", "RR73" or "R-RPRT"
  6. I will retry 3 times before moving on to next station (1 retry with JT65)
  7. If you are calling/answering out of sequence the QSO will NOT be logged
  8. If you are not in the log try again

All Logs will be uploaded to Clublog, LoTW and eQSL
