I was originally licensed back in 1992 (KD4SUI) as a Technician Plus (passing the 5wpm code test). I proceeded to get my code speed up to 13wpm and upgraded to General and Advanced class around 1994-1995. When I upgraded to Advanced class, I opted for a new FCC issued 2x2 callsign and got KT4KN. After many years and some time away from amateur radio, I upgraded to Amateur Extra class in October 2015. These upgrades took place with the help of some very fine "Elmers" ranging from places as diverse as La Fayette, GA., Athens, GA., and Dalton, GA. In February 2016, I decided after my upgrade that I wanted an Extra Class call. I tried for a 1x2 and 2x1, but the competition for those calls was fierce, and I did not receive one. I then decided to go for an A 2x2 call, and learned AB4MM was available. I applied for the call, and my application was granted March 11, 2016. I like my new call, but it's hard to not slip up and give my old call, the call that I had since 1995.
My particular interests are HF, VHF, and UHF using voice (SSB & FM), CW, D-Star, and packet (WinLink, D-Rats, RMS Express, APRS). I enjoy building antennae, public service activities (ARES and SKYWARN), and assisting with community events such as marathons and bike races. I also enjoy contesting, but prefer good ole fashioned rag-chewing and making new friends. I love a good hamfest! I also look forward to giving back to the amateur radio communiy by serving as a volunteer examiners for amateurs seeking new licenses or to upgrade their current license to a higher class license,
My current radios are an Icom ID-880H, an Icom ID-51A Plus 50th Anniversary Edition, a Kenwood TM-281A (2M 65w mobile radio) and a Kenwood TH-F6A (2M, 1.25M, and 70CM 5w handheld). I'm using a borrowed Yaesu FT-900CAT for HF until I can save up the money for an Icom IC-7100 or an Icom 7300. My antenna is currently a Radiowavz G5RV Jr. I'm looking to upgrading that to an 80M Windom from Buxcomm.
Thanks for reading my bio, and may the Lord bless you richly!
