22/3/15 Update. Well I've taken the plunge, I have released the Flex1500 and gone and got a Flex 6300.Still learning what can be done with this thing but already had it working remotely and have now got Free-DV capability and of course all the digital stuff. So if you hear me on I'll be using the 6300.
1/3/15 Well with over 200 QSO's on the little Flex 1500 in nearly two months I have gone back to the FT2000 with mixed feelings on the pure SDR concept, I think I will take the plunge in the future but for now I'll be sticking with the FT2000 with panadapter for a while yet. I still like the good old fashion knobs and buttons. One thing, this little flex has taught me is to be more active with the functions I have on the FT2000.
9/1/15 Yet another new addition to the shack, I have a Flex 1500, I've been thinking about SDR for some time so just just to see how I get on with it I've purchased this little QRP unit, I'm not a qrp man so it is hooked to a little solid state amp that will give me about 150wPEP. Its taken a little time to set things up but I've already had some good contacts with it. So if you catch me on HF have a listen and let me know how it sounds, TX audio wise it has a lot to live upto, taking the place of the FT2K I'm using the MD100 mic from the FT2K. Its very strange not having the 2K on when I'm in the shack. I would like to say thanks to G7CNF for his very easy to follow youtube instructions .
13/4/14 New addition to the shack a 1977 Henry Tempo One ( Yaesu FT200 ), I've used it a few times on 40 & 20 and had some good reports, I use a Ham Master 4200 desk mic with it, I have a shure 444 for it but I think the radio has a problem as the shure will not drive it.
Managed to find a couple of ex Russian military 100pf 1kv Mica Caps, so its safe to use again. If you here me on 40m on a Saturday and its not too hot in the shack, I'll be using the HT one.
10/8/14 update. I've replaced the 1/2 size G5 with a full size slighty modified G5RV. So now I can get on 80 for the first time in 15 years.
For HF I use FT-2000 & MD-100 hooked to a slightly modified G5RV for 80/40/30/20 & 17, hung SW to NE, a Solarcon IMAX2000 for 17/15/12 & 10. A tree mounted 1/2 wave V for 6.
25/3/14 Antenna update. So many contacts with the tree virtical, I have gone and put up a gound mounted Solarcon Imax 2000 vertical for 10/12 & 15, it seems to work on 17 with the tuner.
For VHF/UHF and HF portable I use a IC-7100 again with a half size G5RV .
Also I use a VX-5 for echo-link and yet another addition , I've had an ID-51 for D-Star working with my DVAP.
My DVAP is now connected to a Raspberry Pi and linked to DCS005M.
I also fly a Flexwing microlight, you can see what I get upto on youtube at
