Latest addition to my shack:
As a birthday present I recently got a NEW TOY added to my shack:
For couple of years I have been planning to get an Amp that covers the 50mhz,
but was a bit reluctant to decide for a solid state unit.

I did some reseach, spoke to some friends and followed the reviews on some of the most popular units.

I finally dicided for the Italian-made- SPE EXPERT 2K FA

I am very happy & excited with this State-of-the-Art-amplifier I just tune a frecuency on any of 2 radio connected and

the amp does the rest . The Expert automatically selects one of the six pre-programmed antennas.

It has three positions: LOW (500) MID (1KW) & HIGH (Legal Limit).

I normally run it on LOW and reserve the HI position to those special moments.
The EXPERT 2K  FA has 6 last generation MOSFET from the  MRF151G family.

Fully Automatic-Built-in Antenna Tuner and 6 Antennas Ports and Fully Remotable

Audio Gear

UPDATED:  NOVEMBER 2016

During my years of  ham radio operation, I have experimented with differents area of the hobby.  One thing I enjoy is to listen to a good fidelity station, not neccesary a Voodu audio or extended super wide over 3k or ESSB.  After a while playing audio setups, I must admit it is all in people taste and preference.  What for some people is a good fidelity audio, for other it could be muffle, bassy sound.  At the end its all about experimenting as the ham radio spirit.

I have tried different setups, combinations and configurations, but at the end I prefer a crispy clear audio with some moderated base sound with good inteligibilty which is the most important.

Most new transceivers nowday come with filters, Equalization and capabilty to achieve those preferences which makes it easier and no need to add so many devices in the audio chain.

In my humble opinion it is very sensitive and I suggest fellows audio fans to be cautious on asking for audio report, since not all hams are equiped to receive a over the normal 2.8-3k wide, and besides some others might give a sincere report based on what they are able to hear. Rememer that a great percentage of operators will be receiving you on a normal radio.  Before you go crazy disconecting and making serius changes on your equipment setup, try to get someone you know and can trust to make a recording and send you a sample report over email or any other mean of your transmition. That way would be able to listen and evaluate yourself what type of audio you are really producing. Remember we are not broadcasing station but Amateur Radio Operators.

The AT-4040 was a special gift by good friend Ricardo W1NX

I allways wanted to try an EV microphone, since they are very well know in the broadcasting field, and going thru the different models available, I decide to try the RE27 N/D which to my understanding has very suitable characteristics for amateur radio use.

I'm not a contester, but sometimes I do contests and dx hunting, for that type of operation there is nothing like a hand free microphone.  Heil headset comes very handy for such operation special ocasions.

APHEX 230
I have used many devices experimenting with audio enhancement; I tried adding eqs, preamps, compresors and mixers, both digital and analog. Many makes and brands: Behringer, W2IHY, Bellari, DBX, Shure, and others, after a while playing with audio, decided to keep a simple setup with just to units: the Aphex  Master Voice Channel 230 and the dbx 286s.
