Carl Small (also known by his broadcasting stage-name "Steve Cassidy") is a 35 year veteran of the radio and tv industry now living in rural southeast Michigan. Starting out as a "dj" at a small radio station in Oklahoma City, he worked as an on-air talent and production director at stations throughout the midwest finally settling near Detroit, where he met his wife, Kim (N8NNZ). His radio experience led him to become a freelance voiceover talent and audio-post recording studio owner. During this time he voiced over 15,000 national commercials for Dodge, Lincoln Mercury, Oldsmobile, Jeep, Ford, and others.

Carl's love of flying (he holds a commercial multi-engine instrument rating with over 4000 hours p.i.c. time) led him to pursue aerial filming. He now works as an Aerial Director of Photography and freelance producer, shooting aerial footage for tv shows, movies, and documentaries. His work is seen on CSI:Miami, CSI:New York, CSI:Vegas and shows for Discovery, The History Channel, HBO, ESPN, BBC TV, National Geographic TV, among many others. See his professional work at: "http://www.cassidyinc.com".

Here's the hamshack. It's a work in progress, currently consisting of a Collins S-line (32S-3, 75S-3C, and 312B-4) and a complete Ten Tec Corsair II station. Not shown is a Drake T4X-C and R4-B.

The audio chain feeding both rigs consists of either a Neumann U-89 or Electro Voice 664 mic into a Focusrite Red 6 preamp (Rupert Neve design) followed by a Symetrix 601 digital processor. Antenna pics coming when the snow melts.

Here's the family !

The "Air-Mobile" ham shack for many years was our Cessna O2-A, a veteran of Vietnam complete with patched bullet holes. We ran a Sunair ASB-500 100 watt ssb hf rig with auto-tuner and various Icom and Yaesu rigs for 2M and UHF. Great for those $100 hamburger runs, but we also used it to commute to work all around the U.S.  Yes, the rocket launchers work.
