N3FIX

(Previously held call KB3CNH from April-1998 until 2-December-2017)

Greetings from Central Pennsylvania, overlooking the Susquehanna River and Three Mile Island.  If you are reading this biography that means we probably recently worked on the air.  Thank you in advance for logging the contact.  My base station is near the top of the hill outside of the little town of Cly on the west shore of the Susquehanna River.

We jokingly refer to my QTH as the Cly Institute for Radio Research.  (It really has become the Cly Institute for Radio Repair.)

I started an interest in electronics back in the 80's with my father's collection of books and vast amount of spare parts.  My interest in ham radio was sparked by W3MMY at the Blairsville flea market who sold old electronics and tube equipment.

The Amateur Radio examinations were used as the final exams for my Communications class at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, where I passed my Technician exam on April 30th, 1998.  Thank you K3ZYK and W3SYY for your contribution to Amateur Radio introducing students to the hobby every year.  With further encouragement by WB3BEF (my hamfest pickin' buddy) and WB3EZT (now SK), I obtained my first transceiver and subsequently got into HF with some used equipment.

I passed my General exam on December 19th, 2015

I also run a BF-888s simplex Echolink node N3FIX-L combined with Allstar Node 46891 on a Raspberry Pi3.

I'm a member of W3HZU Keystone VHF club in York, PA ... and W3ZGD Hilltop Transmitter Association in Felton, PA.

Current Equipment:

ICOM IC-746 - base station (modified)
Yaesu FT-2900r - 2m mobile with Comet antenna
ICOM IC-28A - 2m FM local repeater use
Yaesu FT-1D - portable (with linear amp)

Antennas:

SDR VHF/UHF receive = TRAM 1411 Discone
2m FM = Ringo Ranger colinear
HF = Alpha-Delta model DX-CC parallel "fan" dipole antenna @ 36ft
160m = zig-zag dipole (only about 25 ft up)
WARC = Fan Dipole (homebrew in the attic)
6m = 3-element Yagi with gamma match (homebrew)

Antenna Farm

I'm tinkering at the Imp Barn, if I'm not on the air.

I'm working as an Automation Engineer to fund the purchase of electronics, motorcycles, and cars.  I will ocassionally operate motorcycle-mobile from the CX500 Honda with a helmet headset, HT, and 5/8 wave 2m antenna.  I have a small linear on board the bike and run about 20 watts.

73,

Eric
