Licensed in October 2016, I'm a newby to the hobby and having a great time with it.  Worked for 40 years in the insurance industry  handling and managing claims and claims litigation.  Retired in 2008.  Got interested in ham radio when a friend showed me his 2 meter HT and advised that code was no longer a requirement.  Started studying and passed the Technician license the last Saturday of September 2016 and got my General license three weeks later. Upgraded to Extra in May of 2017.   I'm hooked on the hobby.

I'm very impressed by the congeniality of all I haved talked to and everyone's willingness to help.  Antenna is a 130 foot end fed wire which, with the help of a friend who used a crossbow,  put the wire up over the old oak tree in the back of my property and the down the tree line.

Got interested in PSK 31 and love it.  Most of my contacts are now on digital.  Still enjoy phone.  Starting to get interested in CW, going to need some help with this.  Really am adicted to FT8

On 9/4/2017 station took a direct hit by lightening, in the process of replacing the antenna.  Just purchased a Yaesu FT991A and am looking forward to getting my new antenna up as before.  The old one went up in a ball of flame and sparks when the lightening hit.

Compared to the folks in Houston and Florida, this is merely an inconvenience.  I praise the Lord that I didn't have a fire from the strike.

Back on the air as of 10/4 with the good help of a local ham who put my new wire up, getting better report than before.

12/25/2017  Just rearranged the shack, my XYL purchased a matching speaker, the Yaesu SP-10 for my FT991A.  Also added a Yaesu FT100D that I purchased at the auction at the Fort Wayne Hamfest.  Running out of room, may have to add shelving.  Hi, Hi.
