My New APRS Portable Box

A friend and I were talking about APRS and we decided we needed to have one for EmComm purposes.  So I bought the TinyTrak4 from Byonics, I already had a few Leixen vv-898's lying around so I gave it a try and found out that the units worked great together.  Now it was time to make it portable, I had this Pelican sitting around doing nothing and laid things out all to find that everything fit well.  If you would like to see pictures of it being built just click the link.  https://flic.kr/s/aHskwTJoRp

My Emcomm GoBox.

I needed a new GoBox that I could take out to do Special Events and had two radios.  I had these laying around so I put together a new box that will serve many purposes.  The box is made up of a 6sp Gator case, 1 Icom 5100 and 1 TYT7800.  The good thing is that both radios have 2 receivers as well as crossband repeat function.  In the back of the box I have a Bioenno Power 20ah Lithium battery as well as a 30A power supply.  It weighs about 17lbs so is very portable.  For more pictures you can go to my Flickr page https://flic.kr/s/aHskUWNsHN and you can see it being built from start to finish.  Enjoy!

My Favorite GoBox.

Here is my Tackle box GoBox.  It includes an Icom 706MKIIG and the Icom AT-180 Tuner, Zastone MP-300, Signalink.  It is powered by two 10Ah Lithium Batteries that are very light.  I really love this setup and I have made several contacts all around the world.

This was a fun project to build.  I wanted ONE box that had all the options for all modes of communications that I use.  It has 4 radio's in it.  Kenwood TS480SAT, Icom IC-5100, Yaesu FTM400, and a Yaesu 8900. The reason for these radio's was because of the removable control heads.  They have magnets that I placed on the back and that is how they mount to the front panel of the GoBox.  It is powered on AC with a HP 65amp Blade power supply.  On Battery power I have a MFJ-4416B to help keep the power constant. There are 4 LED lights included for night time use.  They are made by Littlite.  I have a Watt meter to keep track of my power use.  With everything on, it only pulls 4 amps.  It also has a clock so I can keep up with the current UTC time. If you need to charge your tablet or phone there is a PowerWerx Dual USB connector.  You will also notice 4 speakers that have on/off switches as well as a headphone plug for each.  I made it so you could have the headphone and speaker on at the same time.  The Solar panels are a pair or 60watt panels that put out 6amps.  The case is made by SKB and is the SKB Case CCR6W1SKB.  I found this case cool because it has Wheels and has rack rails on both sides.
This case took me about two months to design and build. It has been a pleasure to work with and I hope to get many QSO's with it.

Here is a picture of my GoBoxes at the W5FC TechNet on the Hill 5th anniversary event.

Thanks for looking and hope this inspires others to get building.
