I was licensed in 2015 but tried operating HF for the first time on Field Day 2016. Days after that I purchased my first multi-band HF radio, Yaesu FT-450D, which I used until December 2016 when I switched to an ICom 7100. My first antenna was the MFJ-2286 which is a 17' telescoping stainless steel vertical, mounted on the roof, which covers 80-10 meters with a MFJ-941D tuner. The antenna has a loading coil which needs to be tuned manually, so the obvious downside was that I needed to climb the fire escape to the roof if I wanted to change bands. That's why I stayed mostly on 20m.

I then tried several home-made antennas until I settled on a 134 foot loop of wire around the rooftop which I used with 450ohm window line. It was held above the rooftop by several 10' PVC pipes, secured by duct tape and bank line. That antenna was not really resonant anywhere I needed it to be but would tune for almost any band I needed.

Until I purchased a used AL-80B amp, my weak signal and compromise antenna and operating location made it difficult to get good results operating SSB voice, so I was mostly active on JT65 and JT9. Together with a Palstar AT2K tuner I got some SSB voice contacts and was active in our local 10m net. Now I mostly use the automatic Palstar HF Auto tuner, which can tune pretty much anything, just like the manual AT2K.

I log each QSO automatically to eQSL and QRZ and also update LoTW several times each day.
I enjoy exchanging paper QSL cards directly and I will gladly send you mine directly if you want it, although it might take me a while to get around to it. No need for SASE. I do not use the Bureu.

I was located in Ridgewood in Queens, New York but on 2017-10-01 I moved to Briarwood, also in Queens, NY.

My new HF antenna is even more compromised at the new QTH but that makes me treasure each contact even more.
Recently I've been trying to use the FM and SSB satellites and have been very excited about the new FM birds being launched.

I am trying to get the 5-band WAS before we enter the solar minimum. Anothyer goal I have is to work as many US counties as possible. I am hoping to work and confirm my 1000th US county this year.

Please note that on 2017-04-15 I changed my call sign from N2NYU to KG2C.

I am originally from Bulgaria.
