Growing up outside Chicago I discovered radio when I noticed my parent's old Zenith console model had a shortwave band. The strange sounds and occasional voices were fascinating and I was hooked. CW seemed an impossible hurdle so I got into CB, scanning, and SWL. I knuckled down in 1987 and mastered the code, then went from Novice to Advanced and am now Extra.
