Welcome to my little page from Gainesville, GA...the poultry capitol of the world!

I've been interested in amateur radio since I was a kid in the 70's listening to my dad talk about the crystal radios and shortwave recievers he built as a kid, but "life" never really pointed me in the direction to get my licence.

Fast forward to 2016 when my then 13 year-old son watched a club setting up a temporary repeater in a remote location for support of a bicycle race I was doing and became very interested in the technical side of the hobby.  This led us to getting our licences together in spring of 2017.  He's pretty tech-literate (understatement) and at age 14 he earned his Technician Class License (KN4DLY) with no studying at all...I had to study to earn my General Class License. wink

We are both on a multitude of HT's in various states of modifications, have a growing farm of homebrewed antennas (fun to do together) and are running an Icom IC-730 which was a gift from a friend of the families (thanks, KB4MON!).   A Yaesu 7800 is in the truck and a TYT-9800 is the VHF/UHF base at the house.

HF antenna is an OCF Dipole that we built, up at about 38' and the VHF/UHF antenna is a dual-band open stub J-Pole at about 30'.

I am an educator and professional musician with a nasty bicycle racing habit.
