****I am QSL manager for the W9S special event station for the Total Solar Eclipse  on August 21st. Please send an SASE for a prompt reply. ****

Welcome to my QRZ page! If you're here, we either had a QSO, or you saw me on either Twitter or Reddit.

I am an alumnus of Southern Illinios University - Carbondale. While at SIU, I majored in Electrical Engineering Technology, and served as President of the Southern Illinois University Amateur Radio Club, W9UIH, and am a brother of the Zeta Omicron Chapter of Beta Theta Pi. For more information about the club, visit our QRZ page or our website

I earned my General class license in March of 2015 alongside my Beta Brother, James Whittington, KD9DEU, after some persuastion by our professor and W9UIH trustee, David Williams, K9UH.  I quickly took to the hobby, and I very much regret not getting licensed earlier. In September of 2015, I upgraded to Extra. If you exchanged QSL cards with W9UIH between March of 2015 and August of 2016, it was probably me.

Currently, I enjoy working the FM and linear amateur satellites and the six meter band, as well as gathering the equipment needed for my own HF station. My other main interests on the air are DXing and contesting, though until I get the final things I need for HF those will have to wait. As of January 28th,2018 , I have confirmed 409 grids and 30 DXCC entities, and have worked a total of 440 grids and 38 DXCC entities.    I currently have 60 grids confirmed on 6m, using just 100W and a horizontal loop. If you like my grid map shown below, information on how to setup the GcmWin software, written by SM3GSJ with the USA 488 grid borders, and the country, state and province borders that I used to generate this map, is available on K8YSE's website.

Current DXCC Entities I have worked or confirmed via satellite:

USA, Canada, Bahamas, Mexico, Alaska, Azores, Belize, Cayman Islands, Dominican Republic, England, El Salvador, Faroe Islands, Finland, France, Galapagos, Germany, Greenland, Guadeloupe, Guatemala, Guernsey, Hawaii, Iceland, Ireland, Isle of Man, Lithuania, The Netherlands, Northern Ireland, Panama, Saint Kitts & Nevis, Saint Pierre & Miquelon, San Andres and Providencia, Scotland, Spain, Franz Josef Land, and Bonaire. I was one of 7 North American operators to work the RI1F expedition to Franz Josef Land, grid KR80, via satellite.

Current equipment: Yaesu FT-60R, Yaesu FT-817ND, Yaesu FT-857D, Arrow II 146/437-10WBP antenna, Advanced Reciever Research SP432VDG Preamp, RTL-SDR, Realistic HTX-100, M2 6m HO Loop.

I'm still new to the hobby, and I am always looking forward to learning more about it.

73 to everyone, and yours in _kai_ to my Beta brothers.
