Port Augusta is known as the "Crossroads of Australia" and Gateway to the Flinders Ranges, the Outback and Spencer Gulf.

The Town is situated on the quiet waterways at the head of the Spencer Gulf, in close proximity to the spectacular Flinders Ranges. Off to the West and South-West lie a range of hills which once marked the territory of the Nukunu Aboriginal tribe.

Port Augusta offers all the conveniences and facilities expected from a modern city. Choose from a comprehensive range of accommodation ranging from backpacker, camping, caravan parks, hotels & motels to medium price 4 star, as well as a selection of restaurants/cafes.

These days I'm employed by Chubb Fire Australia as a maintenance electrician/technician, some of you may've previously spoken to me when I was STTO Comms for BAE Systems Aust working on the Woomera Rocket Range in Sth Australias Outback. I'm still on the road around the Outback of SA running HF in my work truck (picture above) mainly on 40,30 & 20m

After many years of owning Drake's TR4's, C line's TR7's etc' & Collins KWM2A's, KWM380's etc;  I've purchased the IC7700 & SPE 1.3K-FA, I think it's the most advanced Amateur Radio station that I've ever seen or owned.

I would like to thank Les; from ATRC in Sydney Australia ( who is now unfortunatley no longer trading) and Carsten from RF Solutions Queensland, for providing me with the best service I have ever had from a ham radio dealer in Australia.

Long Distance Telecommunications

Please visit my Long Distance Telecommunications website for more information about me and my Amateur Radio Loop Antenna range.

We have an amazing selection of Amateur Radio Loop Antennas & Amateur Radio Controllers/Rotators also great for SWL enthusiasts.

OSCAR antennas are 18 Elements crossed on 2m and 30El crossed on 70cm steered with Yaesu G5500 Az/El rotator controlled by AMSAT's LVB Tracker and SATPC32.

Main Station Photo's HF/6m system, IC7700 & SPE Expert 1.3K-FA, SATCOMMS FT847,  2m70cm terrestrial & HF SSTV IC9100, Portable Station IC735, and just for fun Drake TR4CW-Rit & Sailor R1119 general Coverage RX also very active on SSTV with Robot 1200C equipment.

I enjoy SSTV on all bands; I'm using a Old School Robot 1200C with Martin Modifaction yes it's still working!! I have had Robot equipment going back to the Robot 70 Monitor and Model 80 Camera. I also enoy SATCOMS, even better when you can combine the two, 6M DX is also one of my pleasures of Amateur Radio.

Field Days

I enjoy Field Day operation when I can, left photo is set up in the Rotunda Gladstone Square Port Augusta (WIA Tune in the World Field Day)

Right pic is my set up for the John Moyle Field Day

10m Beacon is 28.186Mhz

If you hear it please leave me a web message on this page, many thanks..

Thanks for stopping by and best DX 73's Frank VK5KV
