I was first licensed in 1978 as WN5WAJ in Dallas Texas at the age of 23. I upgraded to Tech right away and received my current call WB5WAJ. Several years later I attempted and passed my 13 WPM code test and theory exam and became a General Class Operator.

My first rig was a Heathkit HW-8 QRP rig that I built. So for quite a while I operated CW only until I bought my first big rig which was a Kenwood TS820-S.

In Dallas I was active with the Dallas Amateur Radio club and was a member of the local SKYWARN group.

I had a period of several year where my interest in Ham radio waned (Family and kids came along). I think a lot of hams go through this time.

In 1995 my wife and I moved from Dallas to Franklin TN. Being a hard headed Texan I have refused to change my call after all these years.

I joined the local ARES group WCARES ( http://www.wcares.org/ ) and became quite active with a great group of people.  As of 2016 I hold the position of Emergency Coordinator for Williamson County TN. Our served agency is the the Williamson County EMA. We  provide emergency communications to them in times of emergencies.

After all these years I finally upgraded to Extra at 2011 Dayton Hamvention.

I finally put all my QSL cards and LOTW entries together and got my DXCC in Dec. of 2012.

Other interests include 10-10, DX, and working digital modes.

My current station consists of a ICOM- 7600 into a Ameritron 1200, . I have a Yeasu 7800 for VHF and UHF work. I have recently acquired a pair of Drake twins that I hope will be up and operational soon. For antennas I am using a HyGain Th11-DX beam at 50 feet, and a Gap Titan vertical.
