I have been licensed since 1990, when I got my Novice ticket (KB9FQE) while in the U.S. Navy.  Upgraded to Technician (N9KJJ) while stationed in Bremerton, WA, and, shortly thereafter, earning Extra Class (AA9DY) in 1992 at my last duty station in Idaho Falls, ID.

I like to dabble in a lot of different aspects of Ham Radio.  Contesting, Satellites, Paper Chasing, DX, Digital, serving as a Volunteer Examiner, etc. etc.  There is never a shortage to thing to do in this hobby.

In the summer of 2009, I moved from IL to EMA.  It wasn't until Sept 2015 did I change my call to a 1-call.

Since I joined the Nashua Area Radio Club in the summer of 2015, I have picked up in my ham activities.  Helping op field day, NEQP, NPOTA activation, and 13 Colonies Special Event (K2K), and participating on the club's Board.

As of 01-OCT-2017, I am proud to announce that we are now a 4-member Hamily in the house.  My daughter, Mikayla (KC1IGH), just passed her Tech Licence exam.  Other ham in the house include my wife, Michelle (KC9BLP), and one other daughter, Megan (KC1FGH).

Radios:  My first HF radio was a Drake TR-7.  Other radios I have used include:

  • Kenwood (TS-50s)
  • Yaesu (FT-920, my first radio for contesting)
  • Yaesu FT-DX1200
  • Icom IC-7300 <-- the radio I use the most now
