Inspired by my brother Mike G4AYO in the early days at our parents home when I would listen on an old R208 ex WW2 receiver to listen to the Short Wave Broadcasting Bands. When I started working I bought an Eddystone 840C (which I still have). While at work in a Printing Ink Company I had to deal with a Government Inspector for Oil Duties who happened to be a radio amateur and he encouraged me to seek the qualification. I met a great group of guys at the class and we all became friends including our instructor Norman G3ZCV. I got my Class B licence call of G8ZIG and shortly afterwards my full licence having suffered the CW ordeal. I say ordeal as I am a little dyslexic and I have to count the dots! My interest wained for a good number of years but I have become interested in using D*Star via an H/T and a DVAP so I shouldn't get RFI issues with neighbours anymore - something that plagued me for years in the past.
