During the last week of December 2016 and continuing on into the months of January and February 2017, I operated "vacation style" from a rental QTH on Fripp Island (Beaufort County, EM-92, IOTA NA-110) South Carolina. Fripp Island is one of the many South Carolina "Sea Islands" very near the world-famous resort of Hilton Head.

For HF, I used a Kenwood TS-2000, Heathkit SB-200 Amplifier and a Drake MN-2000 antenna tuner for SSB and CW operation.  Antennas included an 80-10 Meter G5RV and a smaller 40-10 Meter G5RV "Jr.", both set up as "Inverted Vs".

For the satellites, I used the TS-2000 in its "satellite mode" along with an M2 "LEO Pack" circularly polarized VHF/UHF antenna system (available from AMSAT) with a Yaesu G-5400 rotator and Mirage pre-amplifiers.

Using this setup, I made nearly 800 QSOs with other amateurs in some 110 "entities" on HF,  I also made and confirmed contacts (on LOTW) with other hams in nearly 60 grid squares via the amateur radio satellites.

My 2017 South Carolina Station

Satellite antennas at my South Carolina staiton include an M2 circularly polarized VHF/UHF "LEO Pack", Yaesu G-5400 az/el rotators and Mirage pre-amps mounted on a portable MFJ Tripod

Now THAT'S a funny looking pair of antlers!  A passing deer (Fripp Island is a wildlife preserve) checks out my portable satellite anntenna array at my South Carolina station

During the last week of September and first week of October 2015, I operated "vacation style" from a rental cottage at Cape Neddick, near York Beach (York County, FN-43) in the State of Maine. Equipment was a Yaesu FT-857D and MFJ-949E tuner along with a "Buddipole" portable HF array set up in a dipole configuration.

A photo of my Buddipole antenna array (with the world famous Nubble Lighthouse in the background) is shown below.

During the months of January and February 2014 and 2015, I operated "vacation style" from a rental QTH on Fripp Island (Beaufort County, EM-92, IOTA NA-110) in the state of South Carolina very near the famous resort town of Hilton Head Island.

A photo of my 2015 vacation station in South Carolina is shown below. I used a Yaesu FT-857D with an MFJ-949E tuner. Antennas included a classic G5RV and G5RV Junior set up as a inverted Vs and a 30 Meter Dipole, also set up as an inverted V.

The photo in the upper right (showing me with my Arrow satellite antenna) appeared on the cover of the January 2010 issue of Monitoring Times magazine.
