First licensed as a novice in 1973 in Onalaska Wisconsin, I upgraded to advanced in 1974 and went off to UW-Madison to study electrical engineering. After earning my BSEE and MSEE degrees I moved to the Bay Area and went to work at Hewlett Packard designing signal generators.  Being a country kid at heart, the Bay Area was too crowded for my liking so when the opportunity arose to move to Spokane WA in 1980 I took it.  I arrived 2 weeks after Mt. St. Helens blew its top...  That fall I upgraded to extra class and received my current call.  I worked for HP until Agilent Technologies was spun off in 1999 and I then became an Agilent employee.  Not wanting to move back to California, I retired when Agilent shut down the division here in 2010.  I have continued doing some engineering consulting work from time to time for a local company but I enjoy retirement!

I am active mostly on HF and enjoy rag chewing and the occasional DX contact.  I am not much of a contester but I do work some contests.  Having had experience designing RF, analog and digital circuitry during my career, as well as DSP and embedded firmware development, I enjoy building homebrew equipment for the radio desk as well as my electronics workshop (test equipment is still in my blood I guess).

If you hear me on the air give me a shout!

73, Jim
