Antennas HF.

I have a small average garden 30ft long and 20ft wide at the back so large towers, beams etc are out of the question. For HF 40 To 10 Meters I use a radio works Carolina Windom half of which is over the roof of my house.

I have Just finished a 3 element LFA for 10m wow what a great antenna.

For 80 I use the windom and a vertical. When the sunspots numbers drop more time will be spent on 40/80/160m.

For Top band I use a homemade vertical antenna about 14 meters high with a quarter wave 128ft helically wound around it a 1:1 Balun then coax to the shack. Counterpoise is 350ft of wire, copper pipes buried in the back garden while the wife was away visiting family.

A large 1:1 current balun is fitted just before the rig with the outer going straight to earth via a solid 6ft copper pipe.

Antennas VHF.

For 6 meters I am currently using a home made four element LFA 50MHz Beam. For 2 meters I use two 8 element homemade LFA antennas fed with westflex 103.

The house on my QSL card is Izaak waltons Cottage where Izaak Walton (1593-1683), the famous angler and author, lived during his retirement. I help to look after the grounds of the cottage as part of my job.

David (MW0UAA) and I operating in 144MHz Trophy Contest from Mid Wales.
